Issue 01 – Ethnoscape – Page 21

Page 21 is live!  Just one more page before the end of Ethnoscape!  From there, a two-week site reconstruction will be underway, during which time we’ll be updating with more entries from “A Human’s Guide to the New World.”  After that, get ready, because Issue 02 will be rolling out with more crazy stuff than you can shake a fish at!

PAGE 21 (5 panels)

Panel 1:
The three hold onto one another in a circle in the water. They are totally submerged now. The tattoo on VENETIA's neck should be visible and glowing. She is next to SKULKER in the circle. They are dissipating, teleporting away into particles of Kirby dots. The annelids are close now, sucker mouths bared in fangs. Still have the tunnel entrance visible.

M.P. SKULKER:
(Grapheme word)

Panel 2:
Several annelids reach the area the crew just disappeared from, trying to slow themselves pathetically with their little appendages. Two might even collide into one another. A slight trail of thee teleportation particles leads toward the underwater tunnel entrance.

NO COPY

Panel 3:
A few annelids hover in front of the tunnel entrance. Two of their leaders speak about the situation.

The tunnel appears endless from here. We can see the swimming races further down from the entrance. There are illuminations of light further down, where they might exit for the surface.

ANNELID 1:
Don't bother following.

ANNELID 2:
They had an exit strategy… some kind of hard water homing hex. Their ship was out of Fringe Bay before we even arrived.

ANNELID 1:
They're back in the border patrol's jurisdiction now.

Panel 4:
Our view moves down the tunnel now, past swimming beings and fish. The particles are rushing through, toward a now visible exit. The end of the tunnel re-connects with the ocean here, on the other side of the island.

NO COPY

Panel 5:
The group re-materializes now in a different area, still underwater. They are now in the ocean. The annelids and pool are gone. Above them looms the Rhizome, already positioned to pick up the crew. We can see the opening hatch at the mouth of the Rhizome, nestled near the ship's hanging tentacles. Far in the underwater distance, we hazily see the coral towers of The Island's upper class neighborhood.

CAPTION:
The Bohemian Cove, The Island.

Discussion (2)¬

  1. I am really enjoying the art and the story. Good job guys. You go back to the traditional inks?

  2. Andrew says:

    Hey Chuck,

Nope — Since page 10 and onwards, all the inks have been digital. It’s become more of a cost factor now more than anything else, unfortunately. I’m fine with it, I think I’ve gotten a good handle of it, and Issue 02 will be all the better and stronger for it.

Perhaps I should a new post on inking, eh?
